BEFORE
AFTER
Homes in Ireland traditionally are built using a cavity wall construction method which incorporates an inner and outer wall with a gap, or cavity in between. They are normally constructed using block or bricks. Inside the walls cavity wall tiles are installed between the inner and outer leaf to connect the walls. Cavities are designed to ensure that rain water and moisture does not transfer from inside to outside. While the cavity is very effective at keeping moisture out many houses particularly older houses have little or no insulation between the inner and outer walls. We will fill your cavities by pumping bonded beads into the cavities either to add to existing insulation or completely fill the cavities where no previous insulation existed. Our surveyor will determine whether a partial fill or full top-up of cavity insulation is required.

Insulation FAQ
If you don’t find the answer to your question in our FAQ, please contact us.
What type of insulation do you use?
The standard materials that we use are Expanded Polystyrene (EPS), We use KORE boards produced in Ireland.
What finishes are available?
Standard finishes include synthetic renders in various textures, with a wide range of colours to choose from. Other options available include dashed and scraped renders as well as brick and stone finishes.
What U-Value is achieved?
The standard system meets the SEAI requirement of a U value of 0.27 for retrofit. Even higher-performing systems can be supplied to meet individual client requirements. It will depend on available space for applying insulation board.
I have a flat roof on my garage or extension does this need to be insulated?
If there is a flat roof as part of the house envelope this must also be insulated. We have a unique roofing solution we can apply that will deliver high levels of insulation.
What is the thickness of Insulation used?
Standard Insulation board is 100mm and the finished thickness of insulation and render will usually be about 130mm (or just over five inches).
What happens at plinth level?
A moisture-resistant board is fitted to protect the insulation system at ground level.
Do I need to change my windows and doors?
Depending on the condition of your windows they may need to be changed Our surveyor can advise the best options for your windows when considering the insulation of the total house envelope.
When we work with existing windows it is essential that reveals and sills are dealt with correctly to ensure that cold bridging is avoided. Window reveals are cut back where necessary and covered with an insulation layer. Existing window sills are cut back, covered with insulation and finally an insulated oversill is fitted.
How do I know if my house qualifies for a grant?
The new Building Regulations require that after any alteration to a minimum of 25% of your home’s surface area, your home either achieves a minimum B2 BER rating or your heating system and attic insulation comply with the Building Regulation standards. Our surveyor will advise if additional work is required.
Typically attic roll out insulation between and over joists should be 300mm or greater and your Gas or oil boiler should have a seasonal efficiency of greater than 84%
Is the system NSAI & SEAI approved?
Our Atlas Aval system is approved under NSAI Agrément Certificate 10/0347. We have fully certified Installers, audited by NSAI, and registered with SEAI.
How long does the job take and is there much disruption?
Depending on the size of the house, work will typically be completed in two to three weeks. All work is done outside and we take great care to ensure there is minimum disruption and that everything is left neat and tidy.
How do you deal with existing pipes and services?
All pipework is extended and returned back into the existing outlets. All other connections (electricity, gas, TV) are dealt with in accordance with the guidelines issued by the utility companies.
I have little or no eaves overhang, can you still fix insulation to outside walls?
Yes, it can. An aluminum profile is used to protect the top of the external wall insulation system where there is not enough eaves overhang to cover the system at that point.
